Hello dear readers! I hope everyone is having a great start to their December. With all of the holiday wishlists and gift posts going around, I thought I would take it in a slightly different direction.
Recently, I stumbled upon an amazing holiday gift alternative called Gift and Befriend, which is a service that allows users to browse the profiles and Amazon wishlists of underprivileged children, and send them gifts off of their wishlists.
A lot of the children are asking for little things that we would take for granted, like pencils and erasers for school. One girl in particular stood out to me:
Chao Valeria’s story is that she was raised by her two older brothers after her parents passed away. Unfortunately it turned out that her brothers were engaging in “serious crime activities,” and they were arrested, leaving Chao to fend for herself. Her wishlist items include a doll, shoes, and clothes – normal little girl things.
This post isn’t meant to be super sad or a guilt trip. I just think it’s a great alternative gift to give on behalf of a family member or friend that has everything. Unlike many charities where you don’t know exactly how much of your money reaches someone in need, I really like how all of the money you spend with Gift and Befriend goes directly to the Amazon wishlist items for each child.
Please let me know if you use this service or others like it and what your experiences are with them!
