Every summer, Boston’s South End puts on a great open market known as Sowa Sundays (sound familiar? You may remember last year’s post on Sowa Sunday). It’s a great place where the community gathers to eat great food and shop local vendors, like Union Square Donuts!
We tried these infamous donuts for the first time here, opting for the Vanilla Bean, but that Maple Bacon is still calling to me. The sweet treat was amazing nonetheless – perfectly pillowy and super fresh. Now I want to try them all!
Food trucks are a huge part of Sowa Sundays! It’s so hard to choose just one or two to nosh on, but we went with Papi’s Stuffed Sopapillas. We didn’t even know what sopapillas were at the time, but the menu options looked delicious and the line wasn’t too bad.
It turns out sopapillas have the outer shell of a flaky pastry, and can be filled with basically anything. We ordered the Bulgogi Ribeye with kimchi slaw and sweet chili cream cheese (left) and the avocado BLT with special sauce (right). The bulgogi (Korean marinated beef) was so scrumptious and flavorful. I love how they thought to combine Korean ingredients into this traditionally Latin dish.
Of course I had to get dessert after that savory meal (plus I wanted to try more food trucks obvi). So I got this chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream (my fave) from the Frozen Hoagie truck.
Finally, we toured around the vendor tents to walk off that yummy food! It was a great sunny day, and we can’t wait to go back!
